Drop off Food Bank Donations in Practice

As part of our Health Inequalities strategy, we have partnered with Cheshire West Foodbank. The foodbank is part of the Trussell Trusts 1200 foodbanks across the country working to tackle poverty and hunger within local communities. As the cost-of-living crisis exacerbates financial difficulty across the country, there is particular concern over the foodbanks ability to support those in need as demand increases and resources are scarce.

In Cheshire West, your local area, there has been a 70% increase in use whilst the number of donations is falling. The foodbank has been forced to spend thousands to top up 20% of the food supply, an unsustainable solution for an independent charity.

The majority of those seeking support from the food bank are ordinary working people, who are specifically requesting non-cook food as they cannot afford to put the oven on. There are also particular concerns about the elderly population’s energy anxiety, and since the pandemic the number of elderly people in desperate situations has increased by 80%.

We ask that where you can you spare some food for the foodbank. There are donation boxes set up in each of our practice waiting rooms for our staff and patients to give to.

Alternatively, if you feel you need a referral to the foodbank please ask for a discussion with a Social Prescriber or Wellbeing Coordinator at the front desk of your practice.
